My constructed photo images bring light to the shadows and contradictions of contemporary American life, expanding on the noir tradition of looking at what lies beneath. I envision each scene as a still-frame in a film that exposes the fragility, longing, and missed connections, exacerbated by the global pandemic.
Many of the settings and models were photographed from afar during my year-long isolation, art directing and shooting over thousands of miles using the technology available, proving yet again that necessity is the mother of invention.
Born of intuition, mood, and inspiration, my constructed images are based in real locations but suspended in vibrant fantasies that hint at ambiguities. Yet always a slash of light offers a measure of hope.
